What happened
Hiraia’s site describes a free science tutor for Filipino elementary and junior-high learners. It says the tutor runs on the phone after an initial download.
The homepage download button, checked 25 September 2026, says Hiraia v 0.4.24 for Android, 417 MB. The file behind that button is named hiraia-v0p4p24.apk. The FAQ states the same version. An older changelog note mentions v0.4.17. That note is not the current download.
The site says the first launch downloads about a 2 GB tutoring model. After that, it says Hiraia no longer needs an internet connection. It asks for Android 10 or newer, and recommends 4 GB or more of memory for model-generated cards.
The homepage says the tutor speaks Tagalog and English. The FAQ adds that Bisaya is in the same build. The site lists about 50,000 science facts, 30,000 illustrations, and 20,000 mini-quizzes.
What it is not
Hiraia’s own footer says it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Education. “MATATAG-compatible” on the page is the project’s description of its science content. It is not a DepEd certification, partnership, or nationwide rollout.
The app is not on the Play Store. Installing it means sideloading an APK from hiraia.org. The site calls the product Early Alpha.
Classroom sharing through Pears is described as a plan so one downloaded copy can be passed around a class. The homepage says that sharing is not shipping yet.
Why it matters in the Philippines
A tutor that stays on the phone matters where home broadband is weak, expensive, or shared. A student can review science after the large first download, without staying online for every question.
Parents and teachers still need to check the explanations. An on-device tutor is study support. It is not an answer key, and it does not replace a teacher.
What to do next
- Download only from hiraia.org. The current file is the v0.4.24 APK.
- Expect a large model download the first time the app opens.
- Treat the lessons as study help, not an official DepEd material.
- Watch for a Play Store release and for Pears classroom sharing, which is still not shipping.
How this was checked
The version, Android requirement, 2 GB first download, offline claim, Tagalog and English line, content counts, Early Alpha label, Play Store absence, Pears status, and the DepEd non-endorsement sentence were read on hiraia.org and hiraia.org/faq on 25 September 2026. The APK address returned the v0.4.24 file. Bisaya as a language in the same build is from the official FAQ. Older press is not the source of the version number.
Put this into practice
Any learner can also turn notes into practice questions and get help with a hard passage.
