What happened

The Philippine Information Agency reported advice from the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to avoid entering personal, sensitive or confidential information into AI platforms when that information is not necessary for the task.

One example is a medical document: a person can replace the name, address, identification number and other identifying details before asking for a general explanation.

What to do now

  • Decide whether the AI tool needs the original document at all.
  • Remove names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers and government IDs.
  • Remove medical identifiers, signatures, faces and confidential workplace information.
  • Paste only the smallest portion needed for the question.
  • Check the service’s data and retention settings before submitting.

When to ask for help

For legal, medical, financial, employment or government records, redaction alone may not be enough. Follow the organisation’s approved system and privacy policy, and ask the responsible person when the rules are unclear.
