Let Gemini search your Gmail and Google Drive

Instead of scrolling through hundreds of old emails or opening twenty different Google Docs, you can ask Gemini to search your personal Google account directly using Google Workspace Extensions.

What you need

• A personal Google account signed into gemini.google.com or the Gemini mobile app.
• Google Workspace Extensions turned on in Gemini settings.
• Emails or documents stored in your Gmail or Google Drive.

How to turn on the connectors

1. Open gemini.google.com.
2. Click Settings (gear icon) at the bottom left, then click Extensions.
3. Toggle on Google Workspace (this connects Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs).
4. You can also toggle on YouTube and Google Maps if you want Gemini to search videos and places.

Type @Gmail in the prompt box followed by your question:

@Gmail Find the recent email from [sender name or topic].
Summarize what they need from me and any deadlines mentioned.
Keep it under 3 bullet points.

Try this: Organize your email inbox

When you return from a trip or a busy week and your inbox is full:

@Gmail Look at my emails from the past 3 days.
List only the messages that require an action or reply from me.
Do not include newsletters, promo discounts or social media notifications.

Before you connect your accounts

• Personal vs Workplace Accounts: If you are using a company or school Google Workspace account, your administrator might disable or monitor AI extensions. Check workplace policies before connecting work email.
• Never search for banking OTPs or passwords: Gemini will not and should not be used to manage banking credentials or passwords.
• Always verify the source: Gemini will show a link to the exact Gmail thread or Google Doc it referenced. Click the link to verify dates, amounts, and sender names before taking action.
